On the 24th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, President Serzh Sargsyan received a message of congratulations from his French colleague, François Hollande.
“I am delighted that I was in [Armenia’s capital city of] Yerevan on April 24, together with the Armenian people, on the occasion of the [Armenian] Genocide Centennial commemoration.
“This emotional ceremony showed Armenia’s will to craft the best future, [but] without forgetting the historical tragedies.
“France will continue its friendship, solidarity and support to Armenia. In particular, as the [OSCE] Minsk Group Co-Chair, France isdetermined to continue its mediation efforts toward settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” specifically reads the congratulatory message by the French president.
The Republic of Armenia on Monday marks the 24th anniversary of its independence. A referendum on Armenia’s secession from the USSR and the establishment of an independent state was conducted on September 21, 1991. As a result, 94.99 percent of the country’s citizens voted “for” independence.
