This year, on December 31, instead of New Year festal concert a firework will be held, head of Cultural Department of the Yerevan City Hall Lusine Martirosyan informed NEWS.am.

“For years series of events were staged that day, but considering that basically foreign students were attending, this year at 12:07 a.m. a huge firework will be showed,” she stated.

Martirosyan added that it is likely that this year there will be no carousel for the kids in that period at the Republic Square. However the matter is still discussed with Mayor and is not yet finalized.

As for the main Christmas tree and Yerevan streets, Martirosyan said that special lighting and decorations are brought from Moscow. In addition, two 12-meter artificial trees are delivered from Moscow to be placed in front of City Hall and French Square (near the Opera House). The Christmas trees will also be put up in various regions of Armenia and festive events will be organized.

Interestingly, our main tree is the second by height (29m) after the Moscow one (30m).

Yerevan City Hall representative Sasun Hambardzumyan outlined that Republic Square Christmas tree dressing will be completed by Dec. 27 and will stay there till Jan.13.
