The 130th court sitting to hear the first Ergenekon case has started in Turkey. The Turkish Zaman newspaper reported that 22 accused persons were on the dock at Istanbul Court for Grave Crimes #13, including retired General Veli Küçük, Chairman of the Workers’ Party Doğu Perinçek, and others.

The first Egrenekon case includes two charges: an assault on the Chief Judge of the Council of State (Danıştay) and attack on the editorial office of the Cumhuriyet newspaper.

Ergenekon is considered a terrorist organization that plotted a number of murders, create a chaos in the country and seize power. Among the potential victims were Patriarch Mesrob Mutafyan, leader of the Alevit community, Turkish Premier Recept Erbogan and others.
