YEREVAN.- We must eliminate not only consequences but the causes of poverty, President Serzh Sargsyan said during a campaign event in the town of Agarak, near the border with Iran.

“The most important thing for us is social justice. People must be confident in their future. One might think that a candidate must praise himself, avoiding awkward questions. But I’ve always been honest and cannot act differently,” he told the voters, Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports from Agrak.

He said poverty is one of the most serious problems in Armenia. Sargsyan recalled ongoing reforms in pension system, saying it is time for radical reforms.

“The result of the new system will be a steady increase of pensions. And even the lowest pension should provide the minimum needs of the pensioner. At the same time, we must realize we have to create a better life by ourselves. This is the way to better and more secure Armenia,” presidential candidate said.
