Russia uses Georgia for military cargo transit to Armenia, said the leader of Georgian Green Party Giorgiy Gachechiladze, Akhali Taoba reports.

According to him, opening of Upper Lars checkpoint is a part of agreement signed in 2006 on use of Georgia’s territory for transit based on the interests of RF Defense Ministry.

Gachechiladze emphasized the agreement directly indicates that the checkpoint is opened to meet the needs of 102 Russian base located in Armenia.

Meanwhile, Georgia Online agency reports that agreement signed in 2006 is currently void, as Upper Lars checkpoint opening is regulated by new agreement recently reached in Switzerland.

March 1, 2010 after a lapse of four years the Upper Lars checkpoint on Russia-Georgia border reopened.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stated that in case Azerbaijan gets any information on supplies of Russian weapons to Armenia, the country will respond by negotiating with Georgian side.
