The Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CDU/CSU) coalition, which is led by Chancellor Angela Merkel, has won Sunday’s Bundestag (Parliament) elections.    

In line with preliminary data from the Electoral Commission, the conservatives’ coalition garnered 41.5 percent of the votes, thus recorded the best result ever since the unification of East and West Germany.

This result, however, is not enough to have absolute majority at the Bundestag, and therefore the CDU/CSU will has to include other political forces to form a government, Lenta.ru reports.
