German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared against Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan’s wish to open Turkish lycées in Germany.

She holds the opinion that all it would not be of any benefit if all Turkish children living in Germany attended Turkish schools, reported Passauer Neue Presse.

In the context of integration, it would not bring any progress, as “Turkish children must go to German schools,” said Merkel, who is to be on a visit to Turkey on March 29-30.

Merkel once more declared against Turkey’s full membership in the European Union (EU). She is for the state’s privileged partnership with the EU.

As a candidate for EU membership since 2004, Turkey has been rejecting the idea of privileged partnership, which is supported by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, as well as by Austria. Official Ankara does not recognize the Republic of Cyprus, an EU member, which impedes the negotiations for Turkey’s admission to the EU.
