In line with the preliminary data by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Tajikistan, incumbent President Emomalii Rahmon has won the country’s presidential elections, with 83.6 percent of the votes cast in his favor.

Tajikistan CEC Chairman Mirmohamed Shonen stated the aforesaid at a briefing.  

In his words, the other five presidential candidates received less than five percent of the total votes, reports RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.  

It was reported earlier that there were 4,035,000 voters.

“The elections were held in accordance with the laws of Tajikistan. [They were] free, transparent and democratic, with a high voter turnout,” the Tajikistan Central Election Commission stated.
