YEREVAN. – As of October 1, the permanent population of Armenia totaled 2,993,900 people.

Karine Kuyumjyan, Head of the Census and Demography Division at the National Statistical Service, noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday.

In her words, the country’s population decreased by 4,700 persons since the beginning of 2016, the increase amounted to 9,400 people, whereas emigration—14,100 persons.

Kuyumjyan added that, as of October 1, women made up 52 percent of Armenia’s population. The number of women, however, is declining faster—by -7,500—than that of the men—by -2,600—in the country.
