YEREVAN. – Cancer mortality was slightly down in Armenia, from January to September.

Karine Kuyumjyan, Head of the Census and Demography Division at the National Statistical Service, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday.

In her words, mortality rate due to oncological illnesses in the country had totaled 4,522 (21.6% of deaths) in January-September 2015, whereas this was 4,036 (19.8% of deaths) in the same period of the current year. 

Kuyumjyan added, however, that the leading cause of deaths in Armenia is once again cardiovascular illnesses.

Overall, 20,427 people died in the country, between January and September, and this indicator is 2.5-percent less, as compared to the same period in the year past.
