A farmer and construction workers in China have discovered the remains of a new species of bird-like dinosaur.

The animal lived 66 to 72 million years ago, and researchers have named it Tongtianlong limosus, reported Gazeta.ru news site of Russia.

It appears the dinosaur had died after getting stuck in the mud.

Stephen Brusatte, a paleontologist at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and co-author of the research, said the skeleton of this animal is one of the best examples of dinosaur remains that have reached our days.

This flightless creature is thought to be a species of oviraptorosaur—a group of bird-like, feathered, toothless and short-skulled non-avian dinosaurs that were roaming the land in North America and Asia.
