YEREVAN. – Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Chairman, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, is pleased with the economic indicators they have recorded in the country, over the course of the past nine years.
He stated about the above-said in his keynote address at Saturday’s 16th RPA congress in capital city Yerevan.
“The so-called immunity of Armenia’s economy has changed a lot during these years,” Sargsyan noted, in particular. “We succeeded in developing all those institutions which, working like a coil, are able to soften the strong negative waves coming from the outside world, and not let them reach people without hindrance.
“We were able to also change the economic structure, substantially increase exports, [and] reduce the volume of imports.
“On the one hand, such a change in the economic structure was imposed as a result of the economic crisis; at the same time, it became the major achievement of the economic policy Armenia has chosen.
“The minimum wage continuously increased. (…). Salaries in the country’s public sector have considerably increased. (…). Pensions also have increased.
“[And] the relatively low level of poverty is due to the income coming from work abroad, and resultant consumption.”
