YEREVAN. – President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Tuesday received director of the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Mikhail Piotrovsky.

First, the President welcomed Piotrovsky to capital city Yerevan, his place of birth. Sargsyan noted that those in Armenia are proud that people who are closely connected with the country have long been heading the Hermitage, a world cultural treasury. 

Also, the President lauded the readiness and efforts by the State Hermitage Museum authorities to develop cultural cooperation with Armenia. Serzh Sargsyan stressed that great importance is attached to the cultural component in Armenian-Russian strategic state relations.

Piotrovsky, for his part, expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality, and the installation—in Yerevan—of the memorial plaque devoted to his father, renowned archaeologist and historian Boris Piotrovsky, who was also director of the State Hermitage Museum.

In addition, Mikhail Piotrovsky briefed President Serzh Sargsyan on the Hermitage’s various events that are planned within the framework of the cooperation program with the minister of culture of Armenia.
