The European Union does not intend to set up a European Army, spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Maja Kocijančič, said in response to the inquiry of Armenian News – NEWS.am.  

In her words, there is no such issue on the table.

“Right now we are focusing on strengthening coherence and coordination, unity of purpose and enable Europe to deliver more effective responses in the area of security and defence. We are aiming at deepening defence cooperation among Member states and are seeking to better coordinate our related efforts,” Kocijančič stressed.

Speaking at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, President of the EU Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, stated that the EU should exert great efforts to establish a defense system.  According to him, the EU should set up a real defense union, first of all on the basis of great cooperation with NATO.
