A 'strict' mother in central China decided to abandon her son on the street after he didn't score well enough in his exam, Daily Mail reported.

The mother was seen beating her 12-year-old child before driving off and leaving him behind on the street in Luoyang, Henan province on February 22 before worried passers-by alerted police.

Officers later told reporters that the mother left the boy because he 'only scored 81 per cent in his exam when she expected him to get a 95'.

'Was it your mother who beat you?' an officer was heard asking the boy, who was sitting in the police car.

'Yes,' the child, surnamed Yang, nodded. 'I didn't do well in my exam.'
Officers then called the mother, hoping she could turn back and pick up the child. However, what she said on the phone left them baffled.

'I don't want him anymore. You can do whatever you want with him. You can even charge me,' the mother was heard saying on the phone.
