On 8 March, the Collecti.e.f 8 mars feminist platform declared a universal workers’ strike for women’s rights in Belgium “to show that the world will cease to exist without women”.
The platform has gathered representatives of different trade unions and non-governmental organizations, reports Interfax. It is still too early to talk about the scale of the workers’ strike, but Belgian mass media outlets already report disruption of the work of hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions, the majority of the staffs of which are women.
According to representative of the workers’ strike’s organizing committee Ruth Paluku-Atoka, it was decided to hold the campaign in the form of a workers’ strike since work stoppage is a powerful signal.
