The minister responsible for foreign affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, arrived in Tehran on Saturday to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif, TASS reported referring to Al Manar TV.

According to the source, the Omani minister’s visit is taking place within regular consultations between the FMs of Muscat and Tehran on the situation in the Persian Gulf. The parties will discuss options for resolving the problem around the UK tanker, which was detained in the Strait of Hormuz.

On July 21, the Oman MFA urged the Iranian authorities to release the Stena Impero tanker, which was flying under the British flag, and also recommended that the parties exercise restraint and resolve differences by diplomatic means. The Sultanate of Oman in the past has repeatedly taken on mediation missions between Iran and the West, Iran and neighboring Arab countries.
