Turkey could start supplying natural gas to Europe from a field in the Mediterranean Sea if it finds extensive gas reserves there, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin told CNN Türk on Thursday.

Turkey will become an important gas center one way or another after the conflict in Ukraine ends.

If a serious supply of gas is discovered in the Eastern Mediterranean, there is a possibility that it will be transported from Turkey to Europe. One of the most important lines here is TANAP.

If Azerbaijani gas alone may not be enough, the capacity here should be increased. Our energy infrastructure is very well suited to carry this capacity. The proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to build a gas hub in Turkey has nothing to do with the conflict in Ukraine, he added.
