President Donald Trump on Thursday signed into law the US National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, the White House website reports.

The law provides for a record $901 billion in annual US military spending.

The Ukraine-related section of this document envisions the allocation of  $800 million to Ukraine—$400 million each for 2026 and 2027—under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which provides for the purchase of American weapons for the Ukrainian armed forces.

This comes at a time when Trump’s team is conducting negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

Ever since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the United States has reduced its assistance to Ukraine.

Also, the law emphasizes the defense of Europe. Accordingly, the White House is prohibited from reducing the number of its troops in Europe below 76,000 for a period longer than 45 days. The removal or transfer of major US military equipment is also prohibited.

In addition, the National Defense Authorization Act authorizes the Baltic Security Initiative and envisions  the providing of $175 million to assist the defense of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
