At least 50 cars crashed on a slippery road in Connecticut. According to Connecticut Post, nearly 46 people are injured and 6 others hospitalized.

Police cordoned off the highway for accident investigation. The traffic was restored late at night, ITAR TASS reports.

“It was raining at the time and there was a rain/ice mix that covered the road and turned it into a sheet of ice. We're assuming they came around the bend at the bottom of the hill and, not realizing other cars had already collided, began &‘to crash into one another’,” the source quotes Assistant Fire Chief Nick Verdicchio, public information officer for the Shelton Fire Department.
