On Tuesday British Secretary of State David Miliband said that Turkey might become a bridge across regional diplomacy, Hurriyet daily reports referring to Anatolia News Agency. He also added that being a NATO member, Turkey is an important state in the region that might assume bridging role for solving regional problems.

At the summit on Friendship and Cooperation in Istanbul, Miliband also touched upon Cyprus talks, signifying that the second round of intensified negotiations should be supported by all actors.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, the Presidents of Afghanistan and Pakistan met in Istanbul to discuss regional security issues and struggle against militants. The meeting is held ahead of London international conference on January 28, 2010.

According to Today’s Zaman, Turkey “has been working behind the scenes to repair relations between Islamabad and Kabul, notably over negotiations with the Taliban.”
