YEREVAN. – The “Georgian Armenians’ Unity” NGO will support presidential candidate—and incumbent President and ruling Republican Party (RPA) leader—Serzh Sargsyan in Armenia’s presidential voting to be conducted on February 18. The aforesaid NGO’s chairman, Armenian National Assembly MP, and RPA member Tachat Vardapetyan stated this during a press conference on Monday.
Also, he pointed to emigration and job creation as the two main challenges of Georgian Armenians. In addition, he extended his thanks to Georgia’s new PM Bidzina Ivanishvili because, as per Vardapetyan, he started carrying out his parliamentary election campaign promises.
And the new Georgian parliament’s Armenian MP Ruslan Poghosyan, who had arrived in Armenia, assured the RPA MP that the matter of the release Vahagn Chakhalyan—the Armenian political prisoner who is still incarcerated in Georgia—is prolonged, but this issue will be resolved.
To note, Monday marks the start of the campaign season for Armenia’s presidential election.
