YEREVAN. – The Police of Armenia responded to a recent request by presidential candidate, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic former FM, Arman Melikyan. 

“Yesterday [Friday] evening I received the letter that was addressed to me by Police Passport and Visa [PV] Department Chief, Police Colonel Hovhannes Kocharyan. In it, figures are clearly given with respect to the citizens of other countries that were given Armenian citizenship from 2007 to 2013 and the people that gave up Armenian citizenship from 2008 to 2012. I will speak about this in more detail during the [press] conference on Tuesday [January 29].         

Even though these data are not at all sufficient yet in terms of considering ensured the legitimacy of the holding of the future [presidential] election [to be conducted on February 18], I consider such response—by the [Central Electoral Commission] CEC and the Police PV Department—to my requirements to be very appreciable.

I had already said we consider as begun our discourse with the authorities, with respect to ensuring the legitimacy of the election. We will welcome any positive step the authorities take in this direction,” Arman Melikyan wrote, in particular, in his Facebook page.
