SPITAK.- The wall of misunderstanding between the government and society on March 1 was later strongly rejected, President Sargsyan said.

On Wednesday Armenian President, presidential candidate Serzh Sargsyan arrived in Spitak to meet with local voters as a part of his campaign, Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports.

“Over the past five years we have registered notable progress. There were several errors, of course. In any case, we have followed the principle of learning from mistakes,” he said, addressing the residents of Spitak.

He claimed the officials have recently become more responsible, closer to the citizens and more attentive.

“The principle of tolerance dominated the country over five years. The wall of misunderstanding that led to the March 1, 2008 events, was radically rejected by me,” Sargsyan emphasized.

Eight protesters and two officers of interior troops were killed on March 1, 2008 as a result of confrontation between the government and opposition in post-election period.
