Official Brussels is not in a hurry to respond to the announcement which Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan made in Moscow on Tuesday.

To note, in his statement Sargsyan, “confirmed Armenia’s wish to join the Customs Union and to be engaged in the process of formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.”

In an interview with RFE/RL Armenian service, Peter Stano, Spokesperson of Štefan Füle, European Union Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, stated that the European Commission was closely following Tuesday’s Putin-Sargsyan talk in Moscow. But Stano refrained from making any assessments or comments.

The European Commission informed that they are verifying this information with their partners in Armenia, and they can offer a formal statement or response solely after the envoys in Armenia provide certain details.
