U.S. and Russia will sign a new agreement on the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) on April 8 in Prague, EFE agency reports referring to RF Embassy in Czechia.

Russian Ambassador to Czech Republic Alexei Fedotov informed Czech President Vaclav Klaus that Russian and U.S. presidents wish to sign START agreement on nuclear disarmament in Prague, Klaus office said in statement. The President approved Russian and U.S proposal, Correspondent.net informs.

Earlier, U.S. asked Czechia's assistance in organizing signing ceremony of a new arms pact with Russia, AFP reports citing the statement by Czech Foreign Ministry.

On March 24, U.S. administration official who did not want to be identified, said that the countries are close to signing the new agreement in Prague, whereas White House officials ask not to rush things.

Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START 1) expired on December 5, 2009.
