STEPANAKERT. – President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh), Bako Sahakyan, convened an enlarged consultation devoted to constitutional reforms in the country.

The President gave a satisfactory rating to the respective hard work carried out by the Professional Commission on Constitutional Reforms, Central Information Department of the Office of the NKR President informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. He added that, overall, the submitted draft provides answers to the questions that are circulating among public and political thinking.

Sahakyan stressed that constitutional reforms are a demand of the times, and they aim at further strengthening human rights and freedoms as well as rule of democracy and law, improving the balance of powers, and raising the efficiency of state governance in the country.

“After carrying out some editorial work pursuant to the current Constitution and laws, the draft of the new Constitution will be sent to the National Assembly for getting the Parliament’s approval,” Bako Sahakyan noted in his remarks. “Only after this will it be possible to speak about the date for putting it to a referendum.”
