Unemployment benefit becomes a necessity in Georgia as unemployment rate reaches 1 200 thousand people, said Irakli Petriashvili, President of the Georgian Trade Union Confederation (GTUC), newspaper “Versiya” informs.

As of January 2009 population in the country makes up 4385.4 thousand, Statistics Georgia reports.

According to him, public discontent soars day by day, and he fears crowds of unemployed will walk out stirring a wave of social discontent.

Petriashvili said GTUC presented Constitutional Commission with a bill on unemployment benefit. As the bill was not considered by the Commission, GTUC is going to take the matter to court.
