Nobel Prize winner Jores Alferov has died in Saint Petersburg aged 89, his wife told RIA Novosti.
Alferov was born on March 15 1930 in Vitebsk. He was the inventor of the heterotransistor and the winner of 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics together with Herbert Kroemer, "for developing semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed- and optoelectronics".
