Armenian News-NEWS.am posts the article “History is overcomplicated for Erdogan” by Vahram Ter-Matevosyan.

“Turkish PM Erdogan gets his drive when he meets group of people particularly journalists, more particularly the journalists from Azerbaijan. Recent controversy was not an exception. Turkish PM and his cabinet members responded very critically to the statement of the President of Armenia. The latter reiterated a statement that was done for decades by dozens of Armenian leaders and representatives of the political elite. To the question raised by a young Armenian student, who lives close to the Mt. Ararat, whether there would be a future which would bring back Western Armenia along with Mr. Ararat, the President answered “It all depends on you and your generation. My generation, I think, has fulfilled its commitments and defended Karabagh, a portion of our motherland, against the enemies”. This quote, with a few days delay, came to occupy the minds of the Turkish leaders, which coined that statement as a mistake and urged the Armenian President for an apology and for backtracking from it.

Erdogan, with a Mediterranean macho-style behavior, does not seem to have exceptional experience in reading important policy papers and policy briefs. His overinflated self-confidence needs to be seriously reconfigured when he tends to position his “exceptional knowledge” in history. Being a victim of Turkish educational system himself he could open his eyes and see that, irrespective of his efforts, he cannot change the history. It is a noble intention for his people, but, under no circumstances, should Erdogan try to change the history of neighboring nations. It is a waste of time. His favorite quote “When there is a problem, pretend it does not exist and the problem will go away” best characterizes his attitude towards Armenia and Armenian Genocide.

It is good that he strives to the year of 2023 as a target date to modernize his country beyond recognition, but it is a pity that he wants to do it without transforming the Ottoman mindset, without putting aside the idea that efforts to deprive others from their history is pointless.

Deliberate falsehood and outright lies have been Erdogan’s guiding ethical dimensions for years.

Yes, the Western Armenia along with Mt. Ararat has been taken away from our ancestors and it is the duty of our generation and coming generations to be strong and think about our lost homeland consistently. It belongs to Turkey politically, but history has different story to tell. Erdogan better thinks twice before speaking about history. Times change and we change with it, however, Erdogan’s inclination to get as much apologies from his neighbors as possible never goes away. That man loves apologies, it is childhood complex as his father has been very strict towards him. He knows very well that, in this particular matter, his demand won’t see the light of the day.

Europe and our region got used to the absolutely inane things that Erdogan and his team make public from time to time.  He needs to help his citizens to overcome historical burden and not injure the national psyche of Turks of both Turkey and Azerbaijan.”
