Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador by decree has banned the sale of vapes and electronic cigarettes in the country.

Authorities fear that the devices negatively affect the health of smokers, Associated Press reported.

Mexico's Ministry of Health called "big lies" claims by e-cigarette manufacturers that they are safer than regular cigarettes.

U.S. health officials in 2019 described a form of lung damage associated with e-cigarettes and vaping products. It was called EVALI.

Symptoms of vaping disease are similar to pneumonia, but the body does not respond to antibiotics. The lethality rate of the disease is 2.4%.
