The Turkish lira fell 0.2 percent to 18.3737 per U.S. dollar in Istanbul trading on Thursday, the lowest level ever seen, trading data showed. The Turkish currency is declining against the dollar amid an upcoming central bank interest rate meeting, Bloomberg writes.
Turkey's central bank has imposed the world's biggest negative interest rates, adjusted for inflation, which surpassed 80 percent last month. Last month, Turkey's central bank cut the interest rate at weekly repo auctions (short-term securities borrowing) by 100 basis points, from 14% to 13%. This decision was not expected by any of the analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.
