The number of victims of the earthquake in the province of West Azerbaijan in northwestern Iran has increased to 580 people, the governor of the province Motamedian to the Young Journalists Club agency noted.

The earthquake in the city of Khoy has so far affected 580 people and killed two people, he said.

Motamedian also noted that initial estimates show that the quake has damaged two towns and more than 70 villages, with 20 to 50 percent damage, TASS reported.

The magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred on Saturday in northwestern Iran. The epicenter of underground shocks was 23 km to the South-East of the town of Khoi with 175 thousand inhabitants. The origin was located at a depth of 43 km.
