U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday imposed visa restrictions against Taliban) representatives linked to discriminatory policies against women in Afghanistan. A statement to this effect by Blinken was released by the State Department press office.

The U.S. government strongly condemns the actions of the Taliban. The U.S. supports the Afghan people and remains committed to doing everything possible to promote and deepen respect for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all Afghans, including women and girls, the document stresses.

Since coming to power in 2021, the Taliban have imposed some restrictions that they believe are consistent with Islamic values. In particular, the radicals obliged women TV anchors to wear the hijab, prohibited the showing of dramatic films and programs with the participation of women actresses.
