The Javakhk Armenians of Russia have made an appeal to Georgia’s authorities, opposition, and progressive community.

The 1915-1923 Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey is an international crime committed against humanity, and the civilized world’s numerous countries and international organizations have recognized this genocide. But the brotherly Georgia has not recognized it to this day. Hence, Georgia’s President and population are called on to join the international community, to recognize the Armenian Genocide, and to condemn any manifestation of interethnic hatred and national discrimination, so as to avoid the repeat of such tragedies, the Javakhk Armenians of Russia’s petition notes.

“We call upon Georgia’s political parties, opposition, society, and NGOs, to issue a clear statement on April 24, and honor the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

The Armenian Genocide’s recognition is a matter of historical justice, and it requires the manifestation of a political will,” the Javakhk Armenians of Russia’s letter states.

Javakhk—Georgian name: Javakheti—is an Armenian-populated part of Georgia’s southeastern Samtskhe-Javakheti Province.
