YEREVAN. - International Dance Day is marked on Sunday in the world and in Armenia as well. In addition, the PM Tigran Sargsyan has promised to include dance as an obligatory subject to be taught at schools starting from next year, dance expert Karen Gevorgyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The Day marks the birthday of George Balanchine proclaimed by the UNESCO since 1982, who made revolutions in dance field. This year the celebration will be devoted to dance researches to reveal its treating features.

As for problems in Armenia, there is no law on dance, the expert told Armenian News-NEWS.am. One of the main issues is the miserable condition of national dance, when dances with Arabic and Jewish elements contaminate the field and national dances are neglected.

Another issue is lack of male dancers, as they cannot support family with law salary.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has earlier spoken on what dances are taught in Yerevan professional and non-professional centers, what their prices are and why people attend them generally.
