YEREVAN. – Armenia’s presidential candidate, opposition Freedom Party Chairman, former PM Hrant Bagratyan will not join fellow contender, political scientist Andreas Ghukasyan’s call to a hunger strike. Bagratyan himself informed this during a press conference on Monday.  

He stressed that he is against NGOs taking such political steps. Also, the presidential hopeful made a call: “Let us leave the political arena to the politicians, or become a politician.”     

The former PM stated that he does not consider Ghukasyan to be a politician, but he has a good opinion on Ghukasyan’s human qualities.  

“I consider it [that is, the call for a hunger strike] to be incorrect to pressure us, and consider such move to be a help to the political regime. We have ventured out into a [political] battle. Let them not surprise us; we have been to prisons,” Hrant Bagratyan said.
