YEREVAN. – There are heated discussions in Armenia’s press with respect to the prospect of leasing the grazing lands of Syunik Region to Iranian farmers, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports. 

“A memorandum and an agreement on this matter were signed on January 15. [But] our [that is, Armenia’s] officials so far deny these documents that were signed between Armenia’s Syunik Region and Iran’s East Azerbaijan [Province], which makes it apparent that this refers to a ‘shadowy’ deal.  

Incidentally, the initial Armenian-Iranian agreement on sheep-breeding was reached on January 27, 2010. The matter of sheep-breeding had entered the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission’s agenda of the day’s session totally unexpected, as a result of which the session had extended for several hours.

And, in general, the Armenian-Iranian ‘sheep-breeding’ relations are full of eccentricities,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
