YEREVAN. – The growth in the exchange rate of the American dollar (USD) is due to the economic processes in the US, “Alternative” Research Center Director, economist Tatul Manaseryan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, an increase in the USD exchange rate reflects on virtually all currencies, including the Russian ruble which has gained noticeable value.

“Overall, the Russian ruble showed stability in 2016-ին; the same applies to the Armenian dram,” noted Manaseryan. “In 2015, the dram stood out with an exceptional stability, against the backdrop of inflation and hyperinflation in all [other] post-Soviet countries.”

But the economist projected that the growth in the dollar and ruble exchange rates will not be continuous, and even if it were to reflect on Armenia’s economy, it will do so only in a positive sense.

“A slight decline in national currency always contributes to a growth in the amount of exports,” explained Tatul Manaseryan.
