YEREVAN. – The launch of the construction a new temporary accommodation center for asylum seekers in Armenia took place in Abovyan city of Kotayk Province, the Migration Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The project is implemented in cooperation with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development  (ICMPD) and the Migration Service of Armenia—with funding from international donors.

The total budget of this project is 1,358,000 euros, which have been allocated by the governments of Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany.

The Nicolai Ruge, Denmark’s Ambassador-at-Large for Migration, has arrived in Armenia on this occasion.

In his remarks, Ambassador Ruge lauded the migration-related reforms being implemented in Armenia, including the work being carried out to build accommodation for asylum seekers.

Nico Schermers, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Armenia, was also on hand at the launch of the aforesaid construction activities, and he expressed his satisfaction with their participation in the project.

According to the developer, the new shelter, which is designed for 100-120 asylum seekers, will be ready by mid-2022.
