Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has called himself an “outgoing” president. He made this statement in an interview with Newsmax TV.

“I am an outgoing president, I say this often, and I do not want the problems that arose during my period of governing the country to be passed on to new generations,” Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian president emphasized that he wants to establish good relations between Minsk and Washington, and called on US President Donald Trump to overcome the disagreements that arose in 2020, when the US and many other Western countries supported anti-government protests in Belarus.

“Each generation must solve its problems on its own. Our generation—Trump, Lukashenko—we have problems, and we must solve them,” the Belarusian leader added.

Also, Lukashenko expressed the view that Washington, having supported the rallies that took place in Belarus in 2020, has lost and should acknowledge its defeat.

Alexander Lukashenko has been the president of Belarus since 1994. He is the longest-serving leader among the CIS leaders, together with Tajikistan’s Emomali Rahmon.
