The White House is suspending the green card lottery program in connection with the fact that the Brown University shooting suspect had come to the United States through it, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said, Reuters reports.
“At President [Donald] Trump’s direction, I am immediately directing USCIS [i.e. the US Citizenship and Immigration Services] to pause the DV1 program to ensure no more Americans are harmed by this disastrous program,” Noem wrote, in particular, on X.
On the evening of December 13, a shooting took place at Brown University in the US city of Providence, Rhode Island. At least two people were killed and nine were injured. The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the perpetrator of this shooting.
