Taiwan's Central News Agency reported that the island's national army opened warning fire on a Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) drone. According to the agency, the Chinese drone entered the forbidden waters of Jinmen Island. Taiwanese head Tsai Ing-wen said timely action should be taken against the Chinese aircraft.

Taiwan's Defense Ministry officials told the agency that the island's military forces issued a warning after noticing a drone in forbidden waters. The drone remained in the air, after which Taiwanese forces fired several live rounds. The drone then flew away, Kommersant reported.

China has been conducting military drills in response to visits to Taiwan by senior U.S. officials since early August. The PRC considers the island its territory, and the visits by U.S. representatives, according to the government, violate the "one China" policy. On August 28, PLA eastern zone units were put on heightened alert amid the passage of U.S. cruisers through the Taiwan Strait. The PLA also announced regular air patrols around the island. Politico reported that the U.S. presidential administration plans to sell weapons to Taiwan worth $1.1 billion.
