Land Rover will revive the Freelander, reports Drom.ru. However, it will not be a compact crossover, as it was in 1997-2015, but a series of budget electric cars on the platform of the Chinese automaker Chery.

The Freelander electric vehicles are expected to be made at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture plant in eastern China's Changshu city, where the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Jaguar E-Pace are assembled today, and for the domestic Chinese market—the extended-wheelbase Jaguar XF and XE sedans as well.

Initially, the new Freelander will be sold only in China through a separate dealer network to be established in the future. Later, partners rely on widespread exports.

UK and Chinese companies will jointly design the Freelander electric cars. The first “child” of this brand should be a five-seater mass segment crossover with a front-wheel drive, a universal body with a total length of about 4.5 meters.

It is not known when the first Freelander electric cars will be released, as the plans have not yet been drawn up, and the partners have only signed a letter of intent.
