YEREVAN. – Armenia’s former Road Police Chief, Police Colonel Margar Ohanyan’s lawyer Mkrtich Vasakyan denied the information that his client has submitted to the country’s President a petition for being granted a pardon. In an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Vasakyan refuted this news which was disseminated in Friday’s press.    

“He clearly did not write any petition,” noted Vasakyan. And to the query as to whether Margaryan could write it in the future, the attorney responded: “I don’t rule it out. [But] It’s clear that it doesn’t exist at present.”    

To note, according to circulating rumors, Ohanyan has written a petition asking to be granted a pardon.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Margar Ohanyan was sentenced to six years in prison. He was charged with abuse of official position and large-scale embezzlement of property.

In his capacity as Armenia’s Road Police Chief, Margar Ohanyan was accused of appropriating 574,420 liters of gasoline, which was allocated to the Road Police, and thus causing the state damages worth AMD 160 million (approx. US$ 420,000).
