YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Armen Danielyan will preside over the motion brought to the Court by attorney Stepan Voskanyan, the legal defender of opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) activists Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan, and Davit Kiramijyan.

According to Pastinfo News Agency, no decision has yet been reached on setting a trial.

To note, Voskanyan motions the reversal of capital city Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash Court’s July 20 ruling and the acquittal of the activists.    

ANC activists Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan, and Davit Kiramijyan were sentenced to prison for using violence against authority representatives.

To note, a clash occurred between the ANC activists and police officers on Aug. 9, 2011. As a result the law enforcement officers detained seven activists and launched a criminal lawsuit on charges of hooliganism and using violence against authority representatives. At the same time, the activists claimed that the police officers had severely beaten them. And on July 20, the First Instance Court sentenced Tigran Arakelyan to 6, Artak Karapetyan to 3, Sargis Gevorgyan and Davit Kiramijyan to 2 years in prison.
