“Armenia has not approved Madrid document or ever made similar official statements. We declared that it is a basis for negotiations,” RA Foreign Minster Edward Nalbandyan said commenting on Armenia’s possible approval of Madrid document at joint press conference with Carl Bildt, Swedish Foreign Minister presiding in EU.

Nalbandyan also denied Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov’s statement that at the present stage of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement the “terms of Armenian troops withdrawal from safety zone” were discussed. According to Nalbandyan, on Moscow summit the issue was not even touched upon.

“As for the statement on discussion of some lands return terms, I affirm that on Moscow summit this issue was not discussed at all,” RA Foreign Minister emphasized.

The 7th Aliyev-Sargsyan meeting with participation of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan was held in Moscow, July 17, 2009. Later the conversation continued in tête-à-tête format, and further incumbent Presidents joined all participants. Official Moscow called n July 18 trilateral Summit talks of Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents constructive, that was followed by the RF President’s Horse Race Cup. Today Azerbaijani Foreign Minister commented on the meeting details and said that the sides discussed terms of Armenian troops withdrawal from safety zone, as well as the procedure of refugees return. Meanwhile, Russian newspaper Kommersant referring to RF Foreign Ministry spread a radically opposite information, namely, that the parties discussed Karabakh interim status and the format of referendum on NKR self-determination.
