Less than a month has passed since Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bul-Bul oghly made an aggressive speech. No sooner had Mr. Bul-Bul oghly gone on a “mercy mission” to Nagorno-Karabakh, returned to Moscow and expressed his readiness to visit Nagorno-Karabakh again, but “bearing arms”, than he issued new threats.

In his interview with the Azeri ANS TV channel the diplomat stated that the issue of peace-enforcement measures against Armenia can be put on the agenda unless the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is settled by means of negotiations. “If Russia’s interference in the process fails to produce a settlement, peace-enforcement measures are Azerbaijan’s right that must be exercised.”

NEWS.am turned to RA Ambassador to Russia Armen Smbatyan for comments on his Azeri counterpart’s statement. The two recently had “a humanitarian” march to Yerevan, Baku and Stepanakert. Ambassador Smbatyan said that a “statement [was] being prepared” to be available to the public “tomorrow.” He advised NEWS.am to turn to the press secretary, who, of course, was not available.

While the RA Embassy in Russia is working at the document, we would like to remind Ambassador Bul-Bul oghly that peace-enforcement is intended only for a country seeking war or actually waging it. Neither Armenia nor Nagorno-Karabakh can be viewed as such now. Rather, it is Azerbaijan, with its leader making regular militant statements. Moreover, it was against Azerbaijan that peace-enforcement measures were once taken. And it is due to the armed forces of Armenia and of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) that peace is still maintained in the region.
