YEREVAN. - Availability of financial resources, cooperation between the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and state, small business’ way out into the international market – Armenia still has a lot of work to do.

The progress of SME in Armenia proved to be the greatest among the Eastern Partnership countries.

First Deputy Minister of Economy Garegin Melkonyan said the aforementioned at the presentation of the policy index of SME in Eastern Partnership countries, prepared in the framework of the OECD Competitiveness Program.

The index shows the dimensions in which Armenia still has to work with SMEs. This includes availability of finance for SMEs, cooperation between the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) and small business’ entrance into the international market.

Formation of a strategic approach can help solve these issues. To this end, the Armenian Government adopted a Strategy on SME Development for 2016-17.

Another dimension is the improvement of SME statistical indexes, which will help make the support mechanisms more targeted.
