On August 27, 2009 Georgian National Communications Commission accused a number of Russian TV-channels of violating Georgian legislation imposing a fine of 50.000 lari (around USD 30.000).

The Commission charged “REN TV”, “NTV”, “TV-centre”, “Russia” and “Kultura” channels with illegal broadcasting on Abkhazian and South Ossetian territory without a corresponding license.

According to the Georgian legislation, “illegal entrepreneurial activities on occupied territories of Georgia carries a 50.000 lari fine, and in case of repeat violation -500.000 lari”.
